1. Introduction

Splismart AI Split (“Splismart,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is a mobile application that helps users split bills by scanning receipts, identifying items using artificial intelligence (AI), assigning items to individuals or groups, and calculating each person's share.

This Privacy Policy explains how information is processed when you use Splismart AI Split.

2. Information We Process

Receipt Images and AI Processing

When you take a photograph of a receipt, the image is transmitted to OpenAI's API for AI processing. OpenAI processes the image to identify receipt items, descriptions, and prices and return the information needed to split the bill.

Splismart does not save receipt photographs to its own servers, and receipt photographs are not saved within the App after the splitting process.

However, receipt images are transmitted to OpenAI, and OpenAI's data retention policies apply to information processed through its API. OpenAI states that API data is not used to train or improve its models by default. Depending on the API endpoint and applicable data controls, some information may be retained for abuse monitoring for up to 30 days, subject to applicable exceptions.

Receipts may contain information such as restaurant names, transaction dates, purchased items, prices, taxes, tips, and totals. Please avoid including unnecessary personal or payment information in receipt photographs.

Bill-Splitting Information

The App processes information needed to calculate each person's share, including receipt items, prices, participant names or labels, item assignments, shared portions, and calculated totals.

Splismart does not require users to create an account or log in.

Subscription Information

Splismart offers monthly and annual auto-renewable subscriptions. The annual subscription includes a free trial as described on the subscription paywall.

Apple processes subscription purchases and payments through the App Store. Splismart uses RevenueCat to manage subscription status and access to subscription features.

RevenueCat may process information such as purchase history, transaction identifiers or records, subscription status, and technical information about the device or App. The specific information processed depends on the integration and configuration.

We do not receive your full payment card details through the App Store purchase process.

3. How We Use Information

Information is processed to:

• Identify items and prices from receipt photographs.

• Enable users to assign items to individuals and share items among multiple people.

• Calculate each participant's share of a bill.

• Manage subscription access and verify purchase status.

• Maintain the security and functionality of the App.

OpenAI

Receipt photographs are transmitted to OpenAI's API to identify receipt items and prices. OpenAI processes this information to provide the requested AI functionality.

Apple

Apple processes App Store purchases, subscription payments, renewals, and related transactions under Apple's applicable terms and privacy policies.

RevenueCat

RevenueCat processes subscription-related information to help Splismart verify purchases, manage subscription entitlements, and provide access to paid features.

We may also disclose information when required by law or when necessary to protect the rights, safety, or security of our users or the App.

We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration.

5. Data Storage and Retention

Splismart AI Split does not save receipt photographs, recognized receipt items, participant names, or calculated bill amounts on its own servers or retain this information on the user's device after the bill-splitting process is completed.

Receipt photographs are transmitted to OpenAI's API to identify receipt items and prices. Although Splismart does not retain these photographs or the resulting bill details, OpenAI may process and temporarily retain information transmitted through its API according to its applicable data retention policies and settings.

Subscription-related information is processed by Apple and RevenueCat to manage purchases, verify subscription status, and provide access to paid features. These providers may retain transaction and subscription records in accordance with their respective policies and legal obligations.

Deleting the App does not necessarily delete records held by third-party service providers.

6. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information processed through the App. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain information about your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing.
